A new image set, "St Michael's Church, Beccles", has been added to the photo gallery page; it showcases views from and of the church tower.
The site has been converted XHTML and UTF-8. Scripts in the downloads section will be updated after a while, when I am sure that their content is final.
In the early days of the internet it was the fashion for nearly every web site to include a visit or "hit" counter; it provided useful information to a site owner and helped break the monotony of simple web pages common at the time. There are now so many ways to access page contents that a simple hit counter provides no more than a rough indication of the traffic to a site and most hosting packages provide more than enough traffic analysis by default.
The guest book formerly used by this site still has potential but is no longer suitable in its current form; it needs improved spam filtering and obscene word detection in order to allow posts to be made directly. I wanted the challenge of "rolling my own", but will not have sufficient time to undertake that during the forseeable future. Traffic has been very low and it is preferable to suspend the guest book until the current one can be upgraded or a replacement be found.
Stranger than fiction: we have at last found out who Jensen belongs to!
A new image set, "The Dark Side of the Waveney", has been added to the photo gallery page; it showcases the river area and public footpaths at dusk.
A photo gallery page has been added to the Everything Else section; as time permits, the best images in my collection of digital photographs will be added.
The basic layout of the site is complete and the first couple of articles added to the Everything Else section; creating planned content can begin in earnest.
Updates are now listed on this news page and content is better arranged; the site should be easier to navigate and finding what you want should be quicker.
The family has had a somewhat traumatic year: we lost my Father (he would have been 80 this year) and it has been necessary to say goodbye to five pets, including Johnson – a.k.a. "Martin's Favourite Cat". Other changes have caused a re-evaluation of priorities in life and thus my "public face". The site is being rebuilt, but in the meantime – please accept my apologies for the mess!
